“The Prague Adept – Alchemy in the Rudolphine Period”
A new and unique exhibition called “The Prague Adept – Alchemy in the Rudolphine Period” was opened in the premises of the Lesser Town Bridge Tower on 2 April, 2011. With its atmosphere, the Tower brings us to the time of Rudolph II’s reign, when Prague was being visited by the most renowned alchemists, astronomers and astrologists of that time.
On the first floor, the exhibition unveils alchemy in its material form and explains how close alchemy stands to metallurgy and medicine. Also a replica of an alchemist furnace can be seen here. On the second floor, the exhibition is dedicated to the spiritual dimension of alchemy, presenting two best known personalities of that time – Edward Kelley and John Dee.
The exhibition also depicts the basic facts on Rudolph’s period as a historical phase in which - apart from astronomy, alchemy and other sciences – other fields of human activity also developed. First museums emerged as the so-called cabinets of curiosities, mannerism gained ground in the arts and scientists as well as lay people devoted their attention to varieties of nature.
Trumpeting of historical trumpet blowers daily at every full hour.
