KAJKA 1952 – 1989
Opening of permanent exhibition in the reconstructed observation post of the State Security Service in the Church of St. Nicholas.
Of the over 70 State Security Service stations which were situated throughout Prague, the observation post in the Church of St. Nicholas is the first building of this type in the Czech Republic to be opened to the public.
The task of the agents in this building was primarily to monitor the movement and activities in the embassy of the USA and other allies – Japan, Great Britain and West Germany. The Kajka observation post was also nicknamed the “Geriatric ward”, since it was staffed by State Security agents who had already served their time and were now pensioners.
Visitors shall have the opportunity to see not only an entirely authentically preserved observation post, but also espionage technology, materials from the time, newspapers and artefacts with which the secret service agents passed their time: labels from beer bottles and photographs of sports personalities stuck on the walls. The exhibition at the top of the baroque tower takes visitors step by step into the history of the recent past, and evokes the atmosphere of this period.
