Time scale

  • 1338 – Old Town City Hall established by privilege of Jan Lucemburský
  • 1364 – City Hall Tower construction completed
  • 1381 – Chapel on the 1st floor of the Tower consecrated
  • 1410 – Old Town Astronomical Clock put to operation
  • 2nd March 1458 – George of Poděbrady elected a Czech king
  • 1458 – Aldermen purchased the house of Mikš, the furrier
  • June 21st, 1621 – Execution of the 27 Czech nobles carried out in front of the City Hall following the Battle of White Mountain
  • 1784 – By edict of Joseph II the Prague’s four independent towns were joined (Old Town, New Town, Lesser Town and Prague Castle). The City Hall became the seat of the united Prague’s administration.
  • 1848 – Completion of the construction of Neo-Gothic East Wing
  • 1945 – City Hall under fire as a result of Prague uprising against the German occupation forces; East Wing burnt down
